A crore salutes to you… Sachin
Who is the greatest ever cricketer on this planet? No one will hesitate to answer this question. That’s Sachin Tendulkar…
Currently, at the age 37, he is in his top form of ever seen. I thank and congratulate Sachin for entertaining us and feeling us proud that we are also Indians like you! The day on which Sachin has made first ever double ton in one day international cricket, was one of the historical day in world cricket. That day, I was in college and was watching the score online on rediffmail.com. When I saw that after the wicket of Sehwag, Sachin was moving towards his century very fast, I realized that he will complete his century now. But, as we Indians does not satisfy the performance of our cricketers. I also did not satisfy with that. I told to one of my colleague that, if Sachin won’t make double century today, there will not be any use of his career till! But, it was just a fun. I think I was having full confidence on Sachin’s abilities… that was reflected by my quote.
While leaving the college at 5pm, Sachin had crossed 150 runs. That day, I had traveled through the bus. When I entered the bus stop, I sent SMS to Amit for the score. He replied that Sachin is playing on 199 not out. I was too exited that time. I called my friend Arjun for score. He told me the score live! That Sachin has completed his double ton. It was a proud moment for all of us Indians. I sent the message of Sachin’s this achievement to all of my friends. When I reached to the mess for dinner, I saw the highlights of Sachin’s innings. One news channel was showing his innings in 20 minutes and one was in just five minutes! But I enjoyed it.
Next day, I read almost all the leading Marathi, English and Hindi news papers. I also read the online news portals and newspapers from England, Australia. They also praised Sachin’s achievement. On the esakal’s website, nearly 400 replies were found on the news of Sachin Tendulkar. He is just great. In the local news paper Gavkari, I read a poem composed by an advocate. It was very nice. I am writing it here…

Finally... 100%
Working in education field for last four years, I observed that most of the persons (like eminent educationalists…!) judges a teacher by the result of the students given in the examination for the subject. This has made a real fact in most of the technical education institutes. It does not matter for anyone, what subject the teacher teaches. Can one give the result of subjects like Mathematics to 100%? If he gives, then he will be the best teacher in India. This is the angle of view towards the teachers.
I found most of the teachers have given 100% result for their subjects. Some of them are consistently giving the 100% result for any particular subject. But, the subjects are totally theoretical. Even while checking such papers, examiner does not bother about the contents written in such paper’s answer sheet by the student. Most of them just checks the length of the answer and give the marks. This fact is also known to the students, so they only write in the answer sheets. They don’t bother about the contents that they are writing in the answer sheet. Such subjects always give 100% results. I heard about a teacher that he was hardly teaching 1-2 lectures in a week, if he gets time. Then also, always the result of the subject was 100%. So, what it tells? The percentage of result does not depend only on the teacher but on the type of subject also.
I was teaching the programming subjects from the start of my teaching career. As the matter of logic building comes, students don’t use their brain to solve the question paper. Most of them were not intended to use their brains for the programming. I taught ‘Programming in C- FYIT’ three times, ‘Object Oriented Programming-SYIT’ three times, ‘Java Programming-TYIT’ three times and ‘Advanced Java Programming-TYIT’ one time. But, never gets the 100% result at any time. So, I was happened to be a bad teacher in my career. But some sort of improvement I achieved in my subjects. The results for the serial consecutive years for the subjects are as given below:
1. Programming in C: 50.00% … 76.27% … 91.93%
2. Object Oriented Programming: 65% … 75.38% … 81.53%
3. Java Programming: 72.50% … 90.76% …94.73%
4. Advanced Java Programming: 97.36%
Always, I got improvement from the previous results. For all subject except OOP, I was moving towards, 100%. I was hopeful about all three subjects to get the 100 percent result. Finally, I achieved this by getting 100% students passed in Java Programming this year. Two of them were passed on 40 marks. I realized that, it was the best output of my efforts that I have taken for this batch specially. I also appreciate all the students from 1st rank to 60th rank for their study. I was expecting 10 students to reach the landmark of 90s. But, only one student achieved this. But, it does not matter for me. Students got good marks and it’s satisfactory. Most of these students are having good practical knowledge. I hope they will utilize this in the upcoming subjects to face their final examinations.
I wish All the best for their future…!

Differentiate the Computer Engineering and Information Technology
In the year 2001, I heard about the information technology for the first time. Now this is one of the branches of engineering stream. I was studying in final year diploma in Computer engineering. Our college has started this new stream of engineering in that year with intake of 60 students. We have heard that this new branch is very similar to the computer engineering branch, but it is software oriented. But I was not having the actual idea that what Information technology contains?
After declaration of final result, most of our friends were thinking to switch from computer to IT. Because, it was made possible to transfer the branch from computer to IT. We heard many times about the information technology on television channels. So, it was also known that future of the world lies in information technology. That time also we were not having clear idea of it. While filling the forms, we have preferred computer engineering rather than information technology. Alternatively we have given choices of computer and IT. I got the first choice itself. So I started studying in the computer engineering branch. Even a single diploma batch was not passed out from IT so, all the seats to direct second year were allotted to diploma computer engineers. This was advantages to all the students. Even a student having 77%, also got admission in prestigious college, like COEP. This was the first batch of IT, which was studying parallel with us. Most of the subjects of IT branch were similar to us. But some sort of difference that I feel, university has made between us. The papers of IT were very simple than computer engineering. It was very easy to pass in IT rather than computer. Even the students who got less percentages than us, passed and scored very easily in all the subjects. Whatever hardware subjects that computer was having, were absent in information technology branch. So, the myth was spread that IT has software and computer has hardware. It was somewhat true that time. It was proved when the embedded company like ‘Socrates’ did not allowed IT engineers in their campus interview. They have recruited only Computer and E&TC engineers.
When I searched through most of the ways, I found the exact difference between computer and IT. I also found that this branch of engineering is only present in India but not in the outside world! The main difference I searched from the rise of IT by Mr. Pramod Mahajan in year 2000. It was differentiated with IT company management and Data communication through computers. I am not differentiating this in deep. I expect the view from the readers. If you know the difference between then you can mail me: tushar.kute@sitrc.org

We use IT… because we need fast processing?
When I was studying in diploma in engineering, we used to wait for the results for long time. This ‘long time’ was of just 45 days! Maharashtra State Board of Technical Education (MSBTE) was declaring result in just 45 days after the examination were over. This was a trend created by MSBTE that time. We were sure about the declaration of result. We have praised the accuracy and time bounding of the technical board. But, as the time passed away and MSBTE used more Information Technology rather than conventional mediums, the declaration of the result delayed time by time. Now this trend has been created by MSBTE.
Why I am writing these all, because till more than two months are over after the examination but the result is not declared yet. If we think in terms of days, there are 70 days are passed after examination. During last few years, the MSBTE has started using the information technology aids to finalize and declare students results. But we found these ways has slowed down the process of results. Still, students are waiting for the results. Now, MSBTE has declared that the results will be declared at the end of the February. Why that much waiting for students? If technical board is not capable of doing their work in time then government must give this contract to any private company. They won’t work like government organizations. MSBTE must be prepared for their work in time. We all think that, ‘Technical education ministry of Maharashtra’ is not having any control over the MSBTE. Is it?

Local Books or Reference Books?
Whenever I start teaching my subject, my preparation starts with the study of the best books available on this subject. Whatever book I feel good, I use this. But, many of the students don’t feel the book is good for the study, not because of its language, but because of the lengthy contents and number of pages of the book.
One of the disadvantages of the Indian education system is that, we have made our students more exams oriented than the knowledge oriented. The phenomena have also followed in the technical education also. If we think about the primary and secondary education, we have focused onto the examination point of view towards students. Teacher tells students that this question is most important and probably asked in the examination also. So then, what student does? He used to mug up the answer without any understanding. Then he used to the same again and again. Even the teacher expect from student to mug up the answer. Teachers focus on the guide books provided on the subject which contains the question and answers, which are most probably asked in the examinations! No one (both teacher and student) don’t worry about the contents. They only worry about the questions and answers. I also observed this technique in my secondary education. That’s the reason why, students only study the ‘guide books’ rather than studying the textbooks in their syllabus.
The same continues in the technical education also. From the first year itself, they start to use the books which have only the required contents to make them pass in the examinations! So what is the difference between the professional education and the primary education? Nothing…! In case of the engineering study, I found most of the students use the books written only for the syllabus. If they asked any question regarding the subject, but not in the syllabus, they wouldn’t be able to answer the question. Even they focus only onto the examination. Their target in only to achieve the passing marks i.e. 40… This is because they have studied only the things which are there in syllabus. They only focus onto this. So they are not having the confidence to face any question regarding the subject. Whenever, the syllabus oriented books are written, these books will not contain the contents which are required for study but not in the syllabus. Even the books are not intended to study the subject practically. This harms the ability of the students.
I always have taken approach from the reference books to study. Students found the reference book heavy to study. They are having fear about vast content and size of the book. This is the laughing matter for the students who are studying in college to become an engineer…! Using the content oriented books, they are not studying the subjects; they are studying the syllabus only. If they really want to become a knowledgeable engineer rather than a certified engineer, they must have to use the reference books. Not only these, but they must refer various websites available on the subject. These also provide several useful information about the subject. If you want help regarding any subject just mail me:

My Highest Score Ever…
First year diploma in computer engineering… was the first real introduction to the English study in my life. Before this I just used to study the English as one of the subject in secondary education. That’s why, I found almost all the subject like Mathematics, Physics, Communication Skills, Electrical, and Electronics were new to learn. I had studied the Maths and physics before, but it was in total Marathi. I was even unknown to the English names of various concepts in these subjects. So I found them very difficult to understand and learn as well. This has forced me to mug up the things that I could not understand… It was the first time; I used to mug up in my education.
Gambhir sir was teaching us the physics. Our class strength was full, that is, it was 60. In that, almost 90 percent students were completed their 12th standard study also. So, they were knowing the concepts of the physics. By watching their knowledge and understanding, I was getting frustrated most of the times. Few times, I realized that I made a mistake by taking the admission in this stream; I must have gone for 12th standard study… I was highest marks getter in 10th standard. So, it was becomes a matter for pride for me. The student, who got 65% percent in 10th standard, was able to answer the question and I was not! Because, I was not understanding the concepts in English. When, sir has taken one test of 30 marks for the first time in class. I got 17 marks only! There were almost 40 students ahead of me! Most of them got out of marks! That time I found myself no where in the class study. Sir has punished the students who got less than 20 marks in the test. And of, course I was one of them!
For the first two months, I was unable to understand even the pronunciations of the English words. There are many definitions in physics, which starts with ‘It is defined as…’. Teacher has used to dictate these definitions and we used to write it down to the notebooks. In first two months, I was interpreting ‘It is defined as…’ as ‘It is different as…’ and I was writing this in my notebook without any understanding! When, I saw the notebook of one of my friend, then I realized the actual thing. The same was also given in the book also!
But as my study progressed, I have achieved understanding in English. I brought an English-Marathi dictionary and wrote down all the frequently used words in Marathi. For example, Force - बल, Acceleration - त्वरण, Resistance - रोध, Electricity - विद्युत, Motion - गति, Magnet - चुंबक, Lens - भिंग etc. I have tried a lot to understand the concepts written in English. This was just a start to increase the understanding power. I achieved it in measurable extent. Because, my aim was to cross the 40 students which were ahead of me! At the end of the year, I found myself successful. Because, I was the highest marks getter in Applied Physics subject with the score of 96! The most important factor was I was topper in physics in all the first year classes! In my whole engineering (Diploma + Degree), I appeared for 50 subjects, and 96 was my highest milestone of the marks!
