Is T-20 axe for the bowlers?

When the Twenty-20 cricket was in initial stage, many of the bowlers especially spinners claimed that this form of cricket will be an axe for the bowlers in future. This was obvious because many of the rules of cricket are made in favor of batsmen. The spectators enjoy batting more than that of the bowling. This was the reason why ICC has introduced many rules in favor of the batsmen. These rules made cricket fast and obviously more popular. Almost the bowling factor was neglected. We have seen many of the high scoring matches in last few years that were not there in last 20 years. Now, the scores of 300 in ODIs are not safe! The popularity of the cricket is increased due to it.
T-20 cricket is containing only 20 overs to bowl. Obviously, the bowlers were expected to get the treatment which was there in ODI’s first and last 10 overs! So, recently we have seen a large change in cricket from test to T-20 format. I have also seen that after introducing T-20 cricket, the speed of test cricket is also increased. Almost all the test matches are now producing the results! This is the positive factor that affected the test cricket from T-20 cricket.
According to me, the job of bowling is more difficult than that of batsman’s. One interesting thing I will mention here that, it is expected that all bowlers should be able to bat but batsmen are not expected to bowl always! So it shows that bowling is difficult than batting. Bowling is one of the best arts in all form of cricket. I think all the balls that any type of the bowler bowls are best but by keeping the batsman and its position in mind, one has to bowl. Whoever gets success in this; is considered as a good bowler. After introduction of T-20 cricket, the challenges in front of bowlers get increased. They got extra space and ways to think about the bowling. It is seen that one batsman can change the overall scenario of the match in one over. But a bowler can also change the overall scenario of match in his one over. He can use more and more tactics to restrict the batsman. So the skills to adopt by a bowler are increased. Now, bowlers are playing a vital role to restrict the scores. As the value of single run is increased, the value of bowler is also increased.
In Indian Premiere League also we have seen many times the bowlers had played a vital role in winning the matches. Now, the spinners seem to be most economical bowlers in the series. By looking the figures produced by Anil Kumble, Shane Warne, Harbhajan Singh, Amit Mishra, Pragyan Ojha, R. Ashwin we can conclude that spin bowlers can do their job better in any form of the cricket. Actually, T-20 is not an axe for the bowlers neither fasters nor spinners! Only they require the higher skill set against the batsmen…

हिल गये इंडियन्स...

पिछले महिने से चल रहा आयपीएल का दौर आखिर में ख़त्म हुआ। चेन्नई सुपर किंग्ज ने इस साल खि़ताब हासिल कर के अपने आप को सिकंदर साबित कर दिया। आखरी मुक़ाबले में मुंबई जैसे टीम को हराकर उन्होने जो खेल दिखाया है वह तारीफ़ के काबिल है। इस के लिए मैं उन का अभिनंदन करता हूं।

मैं तो पहले से ही मुंबई इंडियन्स के पक्ष मे था। मुंबई की टीम होने की वजह से और उन का अब तक का खेल भी बहुत अच्छा हुआ था इसलिए मुंबई ही इस साल का आयपीएल कप हासिल करेगी ऐसी मुझे उम्मीद थी। मगर इंडियन्स ने उन पर पानी फेर दिया। हमेशा ’हिला के रख देंगे इंडियन्स’ बोलने वाले मुंबईकर आखरी मैच में खुद ही हिल गये। पिछले तीन साल से लगातार सेमी-फायनल में पहुंचने वाली चेन्नईने मुंबई को ऐन मौके पर आसमान दिखा दिया। मैने अपने ब्लॉग पर जो आयपीएल के लिय पोल तैयार किया था, उस के ५२ मे से ४६ वोट्स सिर्फ़ मुंबई इंडियन्स को मिले थे। यानी मुंबई इस साल की सब से हॉट फेवरिट थी। मगर अंतिम क्षण मे मुंबई ने अपने सपोर्टर्स को काफ़ी निराश किया है।
अंतिम मैच तक का मुंबई का सफ़र काफ़ी अच्छा रहा। उन्होंने १४ में से १० मैच जीते थे। दूसरी तरफ़ चेन्नई की उन के आखरी मैच तक सेमी-फायनल में आने की उम्मीद नहीं थी। लेकिन सेमी-फायनल का मैच उन्होने काफ़ी आसानी से जीत लिया। अब तक के मैचों का ब्योरा लिया जाय तो चेन्नई से मुंबई के इतना ख़तरा तो नहीं था, लेकिन चेन्नई के कप्तान महेंद्रसिंह धोनी अपनी कप्तानी का जो नमूना पेश किया वो लाजवाब था। अन्य कप्तानों के लिए वह एक सबक बन सकता है।
आखरी मैच में मुंबई पूरी तरह से सचिन पर निर्भर नहीं रह सकती थी। लेकिन उन्होने शुरूआत कुछ धीमी गती से की। इस का प्रभाव उन की रनों की गती बढाने पर ज़रूर पड़ा था। मुंबई ने जितनी भी ग़लतियां की, उन में से एक भी चेन्नईने नहीं की। चेन्नई के फ़िल्डर्स ने लिए कैचेस बेहतरीन थे। दूसरी तरफ़ मुंबई के फ़िल्डर्स इतने चुस्त नज़र नहीं आये। रैना की छोडी हुई कैच मुंबई को काफ़ी महंगी पडी। अंतिम क्षण में धीमे हो जाने की वजह से मुंबई को हार का सामना करना पड़ा। इस वजह से मुंबई इंडियन्स के हाथों में आयपीएल ट्रॉफ़ी देखने की हम जैसे फ़ॅन्स की इच्छा अधूरी रह गयी...! मेरी तरह हमारे अमिताभजी भी मुंबई के हार पर नाराज़ है। मैने आज ही उन का ब्लॉग पढ़ा था। अब हमें अगले आयपीएल तक का इंतजार करना पडेगा...

आयपीएलचा वाद

गेल्या काही दिवसांपासून आयपीएलचा वाद भलताच रंगू लागला आहे. प्रत्येक राजकीय पक्ष आपल्या हक्काचं व्यासपीठ म्हणून त्यावर प्रतिक्रिया व्यक्त करत आहे. अधिकाधिक लोकांपर्यंत पोहोचण्याचे आयपीएल हे एक मोठे साधन असल्याने भारताची ही ’इंडियन पॉलिटिकल लीग’ सध्या भलत्याच रंगात आली आहे.

आयपीएलवर व आयुक्त ललित मोदी यांच्यावर सध्या जे आरोप होत आहेत, त्यात ते निर्दोष निश्चितच नाहीत, याची जाणीव सर्वाना आहे. भारतीय क्रिकेटचा त्यांनी खूप चांगला ’अर्थिक’ उपयोग करून घेतला व मोठ्या प्रमाणात क्रिकेटला ग्लॅमर मिळवून दिले शिवाय भारतीय क्रिकेटला जागतिक दबदबा प्राप्त करून दिला, यात शंका नाही. आयपीएल मध्ये ललित मोदींनी भ्रष्टाचार करून स्वत:चे उखळ पांढरे करून घेतले असेल तर त्यावर त्यांना योग्य ती शिक्षा निश्चितच व्हायला पाहिजे. व आयपीएल च्या सर्वच कारभाराची त्रयस्थपणे खोलवर चौकशी होणे गरजेचे आहे.

राष्ट्रीय पातळीवर आयपीएलचा प्रश्न ज्याप्रकारे पाहिला जात आहे, त्यावरून मात्र हसायला येते. स्वत: करोडोंचा भ्रष्टाचार करणारे नेते आयपीएलच्या मागे हात धुवून लागले आहेत. जणू काही त्यांना त्यांचा ’हिस्सा’ मिळालेला नाही! अन्य काही नेते आयपीएल मध्ये गुंतले असल्याचे सर्वांनाच ज्ञात आहे. ते आता सहजपणे सुटतील, याची १०० टक्के खात्री आमच्या सारख्या सर्वसामान्य क्रिकेटप्रेमींना आहे! परंतु, आयपीएल मध्ये हिस्सा असलेल्या नेत्यांनी जी काही ’कमाई’ केली असेल त्याची जलन सध्या अन्य नेत्यांना होत असल्याचे दिसते. त्यांनीच का खावे? आम्ही का नाही? अशी अन्य नेत्यांची भावना झाली आहे. त्यामुळेच ते आयपीएलच्या मागे हात धुवून लागले असावेत. बिहारमधल्या एका प्रसिद्ध नेत्याने आयपीएलच बंद करण्याचे फर्मान काढले होते. कदाचित, त्यांच्या पाटणासाठी नवा आयपीएल संघ मिळाला नसल्याने ते ’फ्रस्ट्रेट’ झाले असावेत.

आयपीएलवर आरोप करणारा प्रत्येक नेता मोठा भ्रष्टाचारी आहे. परंतु, सध्या ते स्वत:ला धुतल्या तांदळासारखे स्वच्छ असल्यासारखे भासवत आहेत. काहींनी आयपीएल सरकारच्या नियंत्रणाखाली आणण्याची मागणी केली आहे. जर असे झाले तर क्रिकेटच्या इतिहासातील तो एक वाईट दिवस असेल. देशातला प्रत्येक नेता कुत्र्यासारखे लचके तोडून खाण्याचा प्रयत्न करेल. सध्या तरी आयपीएलला राजकारण्यांपासून दूर ठेवणे गरजेचे आहे. तिथे एका प्रामाणिक व कुशल अधिकाऱ्याची नितांत गरज असल्याचे दिसते. आयपीएलवर बंदी हा कधीच उपाय होऊ शकत नाही.

सर्वोत्कृष्ट यष्टीरक्षक

आयपीएल च्या मॅच बघताना प्रत्येकाला एक सर्वोत्कृष्ट खेळाडू सापडत असतो. मग तो फलंदाज असो, गोलंदाज असो, क्षेत्ररक्षक असो वा यष्टीरक्षक. यष्टीरक्षणाच्या बाबतीत यावेळी बरीच विविधता दिसून आली. जवळपास प्रत्येक संघाचे यष्टीरक्षक हे कसलेले होते. व राजस्थान आणि डेक्कन वगळता बाकी सर्वांनी एकापेक्षा अधिक यष्टीरक्षक खेळवले होते. त्यात मुंबईच्या आदित्य तारे, अंबाती रायुडू व चंदन मदन, कोलकत्याच्या वृद्धिमान साहा व ब्रेंडन मॅकलम, चेन्नईच्या धोनी व पार्थिव पटेल, बेंगलोरच्या उथप्पा व बाऊचर, डेक्कनच्या गिलख्रिस्ट, राजस्थानच्या नमन ओझा, दिल्लीच्या दिनेश कार्थिक व तिलकरत्ने दिल्शान, पंजाबच्या संघक्कारा व मनविंदर बिस्ला यांचा समावेश होतो. दोघे-तिघे वगळता बहुतेक सर्वांनीच यष्टीरक्षण केले होते. तीन यष्टीरक्षक तर आपापल्या संघाचे कप्तान आहेत. त्यामुळे त्यांच्या यष्टीरक्षणाबद्दल वेगळे सांगायला नको.

या सर्वांमधून क्रमांक एकची पसंदी द्यायला सांगितली तर मी दिनेश कार्तिकचे नाव घेईल. आजवर सर्वच संघांचे १२ सामने पूर्ण झाले आहेत. त्या सर्वांमध्ये दिनेश कार्तिकच सर्वोत्कृष्ट यष्टीरक्षक म्हणून दिसून आला. ज्यांनी दिल्लीच्या सर्व मॅचेस पाहिल्या असतील, ते माझ्या मताची सहमती दाखवतील. एका यष्टीरक्षकाकडे असणारे सर्व गुण मैदानावर त्याच्या अंगी दिसून आले. त्याच्या हातून एखादा झेल किंवा यष्टीचीत सुटल्याचे दिसून आले नाही. याउलट धोनी व गिलख्रिस्ट सारख्या कसलेल्या यष्टीरक्षकांकडून मात्र चूका झालेल्या दिसल्या. शिवाय बहुतांश रनआऊट ही त्याने खूप चपळाईने केले आहेत. काही वेळा फलंदाज अगदी काही मिलिमीटरच्या फरकाने बाद झाल्याचे दिसले. त्यास कार्तिकचे कसलेले यष्टीरक्षणच कारणीभूत होते. यष्टीरक्षकाची जबाबदारी त्याने खूप समर्थपणे पेललेली आहे. धोनीसोबत त्याला भारतीय संघात स्थान मिळण्यास हरकत नव्हती...!

वेलडन राजस्थान...!

यावर्षीच्या आयपीएल मध्ये झालेला ३१ वा सामना चेन्नई व राजस्थान मध्ये झाला व राजस्थान हा सामना २३ रनांनी हरली. तरीही याच संघाला वेलडन म्हणावेसे वाटते. ज्यांनी हा सामना पाहिला असेल त्यांचीही कदाचित हीच प्रतिक्रिया असावी. कारण, राजस्थान समोर तब्बल २४६ धावांचे आव्हान होते तरीही त्यांनी १९ व्या षटकांपर्यंत या सामन्यात जान ठेवली होती. टी-२० च्या इतिहासात दुसऱ्या डावामध्ये सर्वाधिक धावसंख्या त्यांनी नोंदवली. राजस्थानचा डाव २० षटकांनंतर २२३ धावांवर थांबला.
या सामन्याची पहिली इनिंग्ज मला पाहायला मिळाली नाही. रेडिफ़वर जेव्हा धावसंख्या पाहिली तेव्हा चाटच पडलो. चेन्नईने २४६ धावांचा विक्रमी डोंगर उभा केला होता. प्रत्युतरात राजस्थानही १० च्या धावगतीने चालले होते. तेथूनच मी सामना पाहिला. इतक्या मोठ्या धावसंख्येचा पाठलाग करताना राजस्थानसारख्या संघाने दाखवलेली हिम्मत खरोखरच दाद देण्यासारखी वाटली. त्यांच्या संघात केवळ युसूफ़ पठाण व शेन वॉटसन हेच दोघे आंतरराष्ट्रीय दर्जाचे फलंदाज होते. त्यातही यूसूफ़ पठाणने दुसऱ्याच चेंडूवर विकेट टाकून दिली. परंतू, यष्टीरक्षक नमन ओझा व शेन वॉटसन यांनी वेगाने धावा करून राजस्थानची वाटचाल विजयाकडे वाटचाल चालू केली होती. चेन्नईचे समर्थक वगळून बाकी सर्वांनाच राजस्थानच्या विजयाची आशा असावी. ती मात्र पूर्ण झाली नाही. अखेरपर्यंत राजस्थान टीमने जी जिद्द दाखविली तिला सलाम...!

दोन्ही संघांच्या धावसंख्येमध्ये केवळ एका बोलिंजरचा फरक पडला. चेन्नईच्या या गोलंदाजाने त्याच्या निर्धारित चार षटकांत केवळ १५ धावा देऊन २ बळी मिळवले. अर्थात राजस्थानने उर्वरित १६ षटकांमध्ये २०८ धावा काढल्या आहेत...! शिवाय युसूफ़ पठाणचा अप्रतिम झेल घेऊन मोठी कामगिरीही त्याने करून दाखविली. म्हणूनच राजस्थान व चेन्नईत केवळ एका बोलिंजरचा फरक पडला, हे दिसून आले. अन्यथा विजय हा राजस्थान रॉयल्सचाच होता.

Who will be champion?

After creation of the poll for the champion on this year’s IPL on my blog I got many entries of votes. The Mumbai Indians got highest number of voting for their championship. Frankly speaking, I also think the Mumbai Indians will be the champions this seasons IPL. I voted for the same…! But, they will face the strong competition from Bangalore Royal Challengers. Till this moment of the IPL, only Mumbai and Bangalore have shown drastic performance in their play.
I thank Arjun Sabale (Rahul Dravid) for supporting Royal Challengers Bangalore. I remember in the first season of the IPL this team was considered as the test team. It is the case actually. But in second and third season Bangalore has raised their play and joined as the strong candidate for win. There is a same case for Mumbai Indians also. In first two seasons they have not performed well but now their game has improved under Sachin Tendulkar’s captaincy. The captain is also looking in good form after hitting three fifties till in the season. If he play well then Mumbai will definitely win. But the team is not only relied on him but they also got players like Saurabh Tiwary, Shikhar Dhawan, Pollard and Bravo. Their bowlers are also performing well. This was the only team in IPL which was not having any Pakistani player…! So, they did not suffer any type of player loss.
On Friday, I saw a full innings on an IPL match for supporting Mumbai Indians. Actually, I wanted to see the batting of Sachin Tendulkar. Because, the Chennai had made more than 180 runs…! So, I was interested to see Sachin’s batting. He is the greatest player. He played very well… as a best experienced player. All of the members who are directly or indirectly involved in IPL; had played against or with Sachin Tendulkar some time. For example, the commentators and umpires also…!
Hope, Mumbai will keep their play on the same track to perform better. I will revise their play once again in the next month. If we think about the Bangalore; they have a good strength in batting as well as in bowling rather than that of Mumbai’s. Almost all of them are in good form including captain Anil Kumble. The rising star Manish Pandey and protean Jack Kallis is the best opening pair till in this tournament. Jack Kallis seems to a strong contender for the orange cap. He is performing very very well. Now, I an interested to see the encounter between Mumbai and Bangalore. This will be the most interesting in this tournament.
